Random Learnings, Part 9
Uh oh! The trivia is spilling out of my brain again... Today's assortment of facts is particularly random, but hey, you're guaranteed to learn at least a little something! And if today's collection is old news, maybe you'll find something in the earlier installments! (Click on the numbers - 1, 2,3,4,5,6,7, and 8)
Egg yolks are wacky!
According to the official egg website, some young hens produce eggs with NO yoke?!
And to think I freak out when I get a double-yoked egg!! The doubles are also laid by young hens whose egg production cycles are not yet completely synchronized. Some old birds do this too, but they don't really know why. The most common explanation is "genetics."
(For the record, I realize the picture above isn't a double-yoked egg! I couldn't find one of those on command!)
Snow is fast!
The Rose Bowl in Pasadena really is the "Granddaddy" of them all. Not only was it the spot of the first bowl in 1902, the reason it was called a bowl was because of the shape of the stadium.
Aside - UCLA won its bowl game this year -- which is nice!!
PC's waste your time
This might be a "duh'" for you! Per Uber facts, the average PC owner spends 50 hours a year trouble shooting where Mac owners spend about 5 hours. I imagine the disparity exists because Mac users have kids in the house who know how to fix things, but that's just a theory.
No one eats well
And by "no one" I mean only 11% of people. Apparently that's the percentage of people who eat the recommended amount of fruits or vegetables daily. Really? Of course, I'm not entirely sure what those recommendations ARE, so it's tough to know if I'm reaching them!
I may be in the 89%...
Don't be a dog!
Hunting dogs have been known to lose track of their prey when they climb trees. It seems if a critter is agile enough to climb a tree, they are skilled enough to jump to a neighboring branch and lose the dog. Thus the origin of the idiom "barking up the wrong tree."
